Why take your dog to obedience class?
Consider the Following: $75.00 = Training Class vs Euthanization?
· Well-behaved dogs do not just “happen” - they’ve
been trained! · Wouldn’t it be nice if your dog was
able to sit instead of jump up on people when they came over to
your house? · Dogs do not speak English - learn how to teach
your dog exactly what you expect of him! Take yourselves to class!!
Obedience Class is a highly effective means of establishing a productive,
pleasant, mutual understanding between you and your dog. It provides
a framework for your life together that allows both of you to derive
maximum enjoyment from the human/canine bond. This basic education
is truly so much more than just a method of controlling your dog.
It's integral to the establishment of a solid team relationship
that will benefit you, your dog, and every person your dog comes
in contact with, long after class ends.
Classes at most facilities are usually held one night a week for
6-8 weeks, usually lasting from 45 minutes to an hour. In most obedience
classes, you will learn how to teach common commands including Come,
Heel, Sit, Down, Stay(s), and Off. Additional commands might be
Leave It, Wait, and Watch Me. Concepts such as how to make training
fun for both of you, how to gain and keep your dog's attention,
proper use of training methods, good nutrition, choosing training
equipment and toys, as well as the introduction of basic problem
solving will likely be introduced. Good classes are interactive,
and take a very lively, positive approach, with ample time for questions.
With just 10-20 minutes a day of practice at home in between class
sessions, you will be astonished at how quickly you can see results.
Your investment in obedience class will result in a dog that is
easier to live with, more pleasant for others to be around, safer
from harm, and happier and more confident. But, perhaps most importantly,
it saves many people and their dogs that heart-breaking trip to
a shelter - a trip that typically ends in the dog's death. Sadly,
Humane Society statistics show that of the 6-7 million dogs euthanized
in this country each year, a very high percentage were surrendered
because of behavioral issues. The truth is that the vast majority
of behavioral issues are able to be resolved with basic obedience
training. Obedience training literally saves dogs lives!
