FAQ about Microchip ID

What type of microchip identification does the ECCHA use?
At the ECCHA we use the
24PetWatch brand of microchip identification.

How does it work?
A microchip with a unique identification code is implanted between the shoulder blades of the pet. The pet is enrolled with a microchip identification company that keeps a database of microchip users.

Data on microchips placed Since 20-MAY-2003, is stored at: www.24petwatch.com.

For pets microchipped between 1-FEB-2003 and 20-MAY-2003, the database can be found at www.homeagainID.com.

Pets microchipped between 1-FEB-2003 and 20-MAY-2003 can also register at www.24petwatch.com at no charge!

24PetWatch’s database is the most dependable, up-to-date database in the industry. When a lost pet is found, it can be scanned at an animal shelter or veterinary clinic. The animal’s identification number is called into 24PetWatch (1-866-597-2424), and the pet owner is notified immediately.

Pets enrolled in the system also receive a yellow tag to wear, with their 24PetWatch identification number. The tags alone help identify lost pets, but tags and collars can come off easily. A microchip provides permanent identification that remains in place.

How big is the microchip?
The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice. You cannot see it after it is implanted in the dog or cat.

How are pets microchipped?
The procedure is simple and similar to administering a vaccine. The microchip comes preloaded in a sterile applicator and is injected under the skin between the shoulder blades.
